White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has slammed Democrats and their corporate media allies for attempting to blame President Donald Trump for the devastating flash floods in Texas.
Leavitt blasted the attacks as “depraved” and politically motivated.
The storm system, which brought catastrophic flooding to Central Texas and claimed at least 91 lives, including children.
The disaster has prompted widespread mourning and emergency response efforts across the state.
But amid the devastation, some on the Left, including Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), attempted to turn the tragedy into a political weapon.
Leavitt didn’t hold back.
“We have seen many falsehoods pushed by Democrats such as Senator Chuck Schumer and some members of the media,” Leavitt said from the White House podium.
“Blaming President Trump for these floods is a depraved lie, and it serves no purpose during this time of national mourning.”
Leavitt then provided a detailed timeline showing that the National Weather Service (NWS) had issued ample flood warnings ahead of the storm, directly refuting claims that the Trump administration failed to act.
“Here are the facts,” she said.
“In the lead-up to this tragic national disaster, the National Weather Service did its job.
“Despite unprecedented rainfall, the NWS executed timely and precise forecasts and warnings.”
She specifically cited a flood watch issued on July 3rd, followed by multiple press briefings and flash flood warnings on the night of July 3rd and into the morning of July 4th.
“Flash flood warnings were also issued on the night of July 3rd and the morning of July 4th, giving preliminary lead time of more than three hours before flash flood conditions occurred,” she noted.
Meteorologists have stated the flooding was caused by a slow-moving storm system that unleashed multiple inches of rainfall in a short period, overwhelming riverbanks and storm infrastructure.
Despite those facts, Schumer pushed conspiracy theories by pointing to vacancies within the NWS, suggesting that the Trump administration left Texans vulnerable by failing to staff key roles.
“These are the experts responsible for modeling storm impacts, monitoring rising water levels, issuing flood warnings, and coordinating directly with local emergency managers about when to warn the public and issue evacuation orders,” Schumer said, claiming the vacancies may have played a role.
“To put it plainly: they help save lives,” he added.
Leavitt dismissed the remarks as blame-shifting and partisan theater, noting the NWS had already demonstrated that it had issued warnings in advance.
Leavitt also announced that President Trump will travel to Texas later this week to visit grieving families and survey the flood damage, reinforcing his direct connection to the people of the Lone Star State.
“May God bless the great people of Texas—especially the parents who have lost their children,” she said.
“President Trump loves you.
“We are praying for you, and he will be traveling to see you later this week.”
While rescue and recovery efforts continue, the White House made clear that partisan attacks will not be tolerated, especially in a time of national sorrow.
“This is not the time for political stunts,” Leavitt said.
“It’s the time for compassion, action, and truth.”
