Minnesota’s Democrat Governor Tim Walz has heaped praise on Communist China once again, arguing that the genocidal regime is the world’s “moral authority.”

The former Democrat vice-presidential nominee floated the idea in the wake of Israel’s military strikes on Iran’s nuclear and military infrastructure.

Speaking at a Center for American Progress (CAP) event titled “What’s Next: Conversations on the Path Forward,” Walz downplayed America’s role on the global stage.

Instead, Walz claimed that the Chinese Communist Party could be the best hope for brokering peace in the Middle East.

CAP CEO Neera Tanden asked Walz about the so-called “escalatory” nature of Israel’s response.

“Iran has to retaliate, in their mind,” Walz said in response.

“And the Middle East is back on fire in a way that has now expanded.”

Then Walz dropped what many conservatives are calling an astonishing admission:

“Now, who is the voice in the world that can negotiate some type of agreement in this?

“Who holds the moral authority?

“Who holds the ability to do that?

“Because we are not seen as a neutral actor, and we maybe, never were.”

According to Walz, the U.S. once tried to play the role of arbitrator during the original Iran Nuclear Deal negotiations.

However, that era of American dominance, Walz claimed, is over.

Americans, he said, must now accept that the “neutral actor” with the “moral authority” to lead Middle East diplomacy “might be the Chinese.”

Walz offered no explanation for why a totalitarian regime currently imprisoning ethnic minorities, crushing dissent in Hong Kong, and threatening Taiwan with invasion would suddenly become the world’s beacon of moral leadership.

Notably, Neera Tanden, Joe Biden’s former domestic policy advisor and a longtime Democrat operative, did not challenge Walz’s claim.

Instead, she ended the discussion with a sarcastic quip:

“Well, I definitely rest easy knowing Pete Hegseth is the secretary of defense.”

Walz’s praise for China raised eyebrows given his long-documented connections to Beijing-linked institutions.

During the 2024 presidential campaign cycle, when Walz briefly ran as former Vice President Kamala Harris’s running mate, reports emerged that Walz had been a vocal supporter of a Minnesota-based medical research institute.

The organization has deep ties to a Chinese military company flagged by the Pentagon.

In one uncovered letter, Walz bragged about Minnesota hosting “top Chinese leaders.”

He even appeared in a 2021 video message celebrating Chinese New Year at a Chinese language school that has promoted ties with Beijing.

The Center for American Progress, which hosted the event, has also come under scrutiny for links to China.

In 2024, it was revealed that CAP founder and longtime Democrat operative John Podesta had close ties to Tung Chee-hwa, a Chinese Communist Party figure and former Chief Executive of Hong Kong.

Walz’s comments are the latest example of Democrat officials appearing more willing to defer to the Chinese regime, while casting doubt on the United States’ role as a force for good in the world.
