Netherlands: Two dead, officers injured after vi…

Two people were killed and two police officers injured during a violent incident in a house on Fanny Blankers-Koenlaan in Hoofddorp early Wednesday morning.

The police confirmed that force, including the use of firearms, was used during the response. The National Criminal Investigation Department has launched a standard investigation into the police deployment due to the fatal outcome.

Authorities were alerted to reports of a quarrel in the house at around 6:05 a.m. Upon arrival, police officers found two people involved in what authorities described as a violent confrontation.

Following an altercation, both were pronounced dead. Two officers sustained injuries and were transported to the hospital.

“The police, who responded to the report, used violence on the spot,” the authorities confirmed in a statement.

According to Algemeen Dagblad, traces of blood could be seen outside the property on the street and on a responding police car, with photos showing one of the injured officers wearing bandages around his head.

The identities of the deceased have not yet been confirmed or released by the authorities. The police cordoned off the area, and forensic investigators remain at the scene. An officer on site stated that the investigation would likely take at least two days.

A local resident told De Telegraaf that disturbances at the house were not unusual. “There was a fight in the house, but that was often the case there,” he said. According to residents, the property was known in the neighborhood for frequent nuisance complaints, the presence of young men on bikes, and suspicions of drug trafficking. The police have not confirmed whether they had visited the location earlier that night.

One emotional woman at the scene said she recognized the victims. “There must have been a fight – it’s bizarre that they are both dead in the house now. Of course, strange things happened there, but you don’t wish this on anyone. Not even the officer. I’ve heard that he’s in the hospital.”

Another bystander expressed frustration about the decline of the area. “Hoofddorp is completely ruined by violence and drugs. This is not the first incident,” he said.

Authorities have released no further details about the victims, the suspect, or what exactly led to the confrontation.
