Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has donated $1.25 million to a campaign working to defeat a November pro-life ballot measure that would restore Missouri’s protections for unborn babies and reinstate limits on abortion.

The contribution went to Stop the Ban, the PAC opposing Amendment 3.

The group reported the donation Wednesday to the Missouri Ethics Commission and has now raised more than $6.5 million. Bloomberg previously gave $1 million in 2024 to Missourians for Constitutional Freedom, which successfully pushed the amendment that overturned the state’s laws protecting babies.

Amendment 3, placed on the November 3 ballot by state lawmakers, would repeal the 2024 constitutional change and ban abortions except in cases of medical emergency or pregnancies resulting from rape or incest in the first 12 weeks.

It would also constitutionally prohibit so-called sex change procedures on minors.

Pro-life advocates say the measure is needed to again protect unborn children and ensure safety standards for women after the 2024 amendment led to killing babies again.

“I urge every Missourian to vote on November 5 in favor of Amendment 3: Prohibit Abortion and Gender Transition Procedures for Minors,” said Troy Newman, president of Operation Rescue. “Make Missouri abortion-free again!”

Newman has argued that recent court rulings removing safety regulations endanger women and babies by allowing abortion companies to operate without adequate oversight.

Susan Klein, executive director of Missouri Right to Life, said the amendment “will restore protection for women, children and babies in regards to abortion. Parental rights will be restored. Health and Safety for women will be restored.”

Missouri Right to Life PAC has spent about $230,000 supporting the measure through yard signs, speaking events and “Make Missouri Pro-Life Again” materials.

The leading PAC backing Amendment 3, Her Health, Her Future, has raised just over $1 million. It is supported by Gov. Mike Kehoe and First Lady Claudia Kehoe, who serves as the group’s treasurer.

Missouri had some of the strongest pro-life laws in the nation before the U.S. Supreme Court’s 2022 Dobbs decision triggered a near-total ban. In 2024, voters narrowly approved an amendment guaranteeing abortion, with about 52% support and millions of dollars spent on pro-abortion ads making false claims.

Pro-abortion groups spent more than $31.5 million that year, far outpacing pro-life efforts.
