President Donald Trump’s Department of Energy (DOE) has scrapped 24 taxpayer-funded green agenda projects totaling nearly $3.7 billion.
Many of the green energy grants were rushed through in the final days of the Biden administration.
Energy Secretary Chris Wright announced the decision Thursday.
Wright cited the need to “protect taxpayers” and redirect funds toward projects that actually serve America’s energy and national security interests.
“These awards were poorly vetted, financially shaky, and misaligned with our administration’s priorities,” Wright said.
“We are acting in the best interest of the American people.”
Among the terminated projects were massive grants for “carbon capture” and industrial “decarbonization” schemes.
The programs involve multinational corporations like ExxonMobil, Kraft Heinz, and Heidelberg Materials.
A half-billion-dollar award in Louisiana was the largest to be canceled.
The cancellations follow a new DOE policy aimed at enforcing fiscal discipline and rooting out waste.
Sixteen of the 24 now-nixed awards were signed between Election Day 2024 and Inauguration Day 2025.
The rush to push through the green spending raises questions about political motivations under former President Joe Biden, or whoever controlled his autopen.
A scathing 2024 inspector general report had already flagged serious risks from Biden’s bloated green spending spree.
The spending ballooned the DOE’s loan authority from $17 billion to over $400 billion.
That report warned of fast-tracked funding and possible links to foreign adversaries.
These concerns are now being directly addressed.
In fact, two other Biden-era grants totaling nearly $400 million had already been canceled over national security concerns.
Under new Trump administration directives, DOE is reviewing 179 additional awards worth more than $15 billion.
However, further clawbacks are expected.
President Trump has made it clear: taxpayer money should not be squandered on green virtue-signaling or globalist agendas.
His executive orders have redirected federal energy policy toward reliable, affordable fossil fuel development while eliminating funding for programs tied to DEI mandates or foreign-linked entities.
