Democrats are sharpening their focus on Elon Musk even as he steps away from his role in President Donald Trump’s administration.

Anti-Trump Democrats are refusing to let go of one of their most high-profile political targets.

Musk, who served as a key figure in Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), has announced his departure from government service.

He departed the Trump administration to refocus on his private ventures.

But his exit has done little to quiet his critics on the Left.

In a post on X, Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) declared:

“Good riddance — but Musk isn’t off the hook for his chaos and corruption.”

Warren, a vocal critic of Musk’s influence in Washington, vowed to pursue accountability for what she described as the damage he caused while attempting to trim federal programs.

Democrat Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX), who is reportedly vying for a leadership role on the House Oversight Committee, echoed the sentiment.

Crockett is accusing Musk of treating the federal government like a personal startup experiment.

“Elon came to Washington thinking he could run the government like one of his companies — firing people left and right, gutting essential services, and tearing this s*** up from the ground up,” Crockett claimed.

“What he did is the definition of waste, fraud, and abuse.

“It’s time for a full investigation into the damage he’s caused and for the truth to come to light.”

Despite these calls for action, Democrats currently lack the majority in either chamber of Congress.

As it stands, their investigative power is limited.

They can request interviews and documents, but without subpoena authority or the ability to schedule hearings, any probe into Musk’s government role remains toothless for now.

That dynamic could shift following the 2026 midterm elections if Democrats regain control, however.

In a farewell message posted on X, Musk thanked Trump for the opportunity to serve.

He also touted the long-term impact of DOGE, suggesting the initiative would live on as a guiding principle in government operations.

“The DOGE mission will only strengthen over time as it becomes a way of life throughout the government,” Musk wrote.

While Democrats are demanding accountability, Republican lawmakers offered words of praise as Musk stepped away from his official role.

Many credited him with laying the groundwork for what they view as a historic effort to curb government waste and reduce spending.

The next phase of that work is set to begin soon, with the White House expected to submit its first rescissions package to Congress in the coming week.

In a post on X, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), who chairs the DOGE Subcommittee, said:

“Thank you [Elon Musk] for your incredible efforts and sacrifices you made to launch DOGE to save America from our national debt crisis.

“This should only be the beginning of cutting waste, fraud, and abuse and delivering government efficiency for the American people.”

Musk may be gone from Washington — at least for now — but the political battle over his legacy appears far from over.
