A federal grand jury has indicted an illegal alien from Egypt on multiple hate crime charges following a violent Molotov cocktail attack on a group of pro-Israel demonstrators in Boulder, Colorado.
Mohamed Sabry Soliman, 45, was initially charged earlier this month with one count of a hate crime.
On Wednesday, a federal grand jury in Denver unsealed a superseding indictment adding 12 counts of hate crimes.
The charges stem from what prosecutors described as a “targeted terror attack” against people supporting Israeli hostages held by Hamas terrorists in Gaza.
According to the indictment, Soliman entered a park in front of the Boulder County Courthouse on June 1.
He was carrying a black plastic container filled with glass bottles and jars containing flammable liquid.
Soliman also had a backpack weed sprayer filled with a combustible substance.
Several of the bottles allegedly had red rags stuffed inside them, fashioned as makeshift wicks.
At approximately 1:30 p.m., Soliman allegedly hurled two lit Molotov cocktails at participants in a demonstration hosted by “Run for Their Lives.”
The organization is advocating for the release of Israeli hostages.
While launching the incendiary devices, Soliman reportedly shouted “Free Palestine!” according to the indictment.
Authorities recovered a handwritten document from Soliman’s vehicle.
In the note, he denounced Zionism and labeled Israel a “cancer entity.”
The document allegedly expressed intent to retaliate against Zionists.
Soliman defined a Zionist as anyone supporting the State of Israel.
The indictment further states that Soliman told law enforcement he had scoured the Internet for pro-Israel events to target.
He eventually identified the “Run for Their Lives” gathering by the Israeli flags being carried by demonstrators outside the courthouse.
Prosecutors say eight people, ranging in age from 52 to 88, were injured in the attack.
Soliman is accused of targeting the victims because of their actual or perceived national origin, according to the hate crime charges.
The suspect is scheduled to appear in court Friday for a hearing.
He will be asked to enter a plea on the new charges.
At a hearing last week, Soliman’s defense attorney attempted to argue that the attack was politically motivated and driven by opposition to Zionism as a political ideology, something not categorized as a hate crime under federal law.
Soliman entered the U.S. illegally, according to law enforcement officials.
Immigration status was referenced in the indictment as federal authorities continue to investigate possible connections to broader extremist activity.
The attack has drawn national attention as the U.S. continues to see growing tensions surrounding the Israel–Hamas war and rising incidents of anti-Semitism.
