CNN’s data guru appeared visibly shocked while reporting on polling that shows Republicans crushing Democrats on the economy.
Even CNN can’t hide it anymore: Republicans are winning big on the economy, and even their own data reporter is stunned.
During an appearance Monday on “CNN News Central,” senior data analyst Harry Enten admitted that despite recent economic volatility, stock market swings, and tariff drama, voters still trust the GOP far more than Democrats on the economy.
In the latest CNN/SSRS poll, Republicans lead Democrats by eight points on economic trust.
Enten noted that the GOP’s lead was still a slight dip from an 11-point edge in November 2023.
However, Enten wasn’t sugarcoating anything.
“How is that possible, Democrats?” Enten asked in disbelief.
“How is that possible?”
“After all the recession fears, after the stock market’s been doing all of this… and Republicans still hold an eight-point lead on the economy.
“Are you kidding me?”
After years of inflation, Biden’s out-of-control spending, and economic uncertainty, the American people are clear: President Donald Trump and the GOP know how to handle the economy.
This trend isn’t isolated, however.
Reuters/Ipsos polling shows the GOP’s lead on economic planning has grown.
Republicans are up from nine points before the 2024 election to 12 points in May 2025.
Even after Trump’s tough tariff policies and the Democrats’ fearmongering, voters clearly remember how strong the economy was under Trump.
“This is after months of economic uncertainty,” Enten emphasized.
He added that Republicans are now seen as equally representing the middle class — something Democrats used to own.
“This, I think, speaks to Democratic ills more than anything else,” he said.
“They have traditionally been the party of the middle class. No more.”

Meanwhile, under Biden, inflation hit a record high of 9% in June 2022.
Prices had skyrocketed by over 20% since Biden took office.
The surge was thanks in part to reckless spending like the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan.
The massive spending bill passed despite clear warnings it would fuel inflation.
The Democrats broke the economy — and now they’re paying the political price.
