Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has reignited alarm over a looming technological control grid after publicly promoting plans to seize control of banking, healthcare, education, voting, and other essential services with global digital identity and payment systems.

During an interview with CNBC, Gates argued that digital identification should become a central foundation for expanding digital finance and government services.

The billionaire praised systems already operating in countries such as India and China and called for governments, central banks, international institutions, banks, telecommunications companies, and technology firms to build similar infrastructure elsewhere.

The result would be a system capable of linking nearly every major aspect of a person’s life to a single digital identity.

Gates specifically highlighted the use of digital identification for financial transactions, banking, health services, voting, and education.

Under the model he described, governments and central banks would establish the underlying identity framework before private companies built additional services on top of it.

Such a system would give globalist institutions unprecedented power over access to money, employment, medical care, schooling, and democratic participation.

The danger does not come merely from the existence of digital identification.

It comes from making daily life dependent on it.

Once access to essential services is tied to a centralized identity system, governments and corporations gain the power to monitor, restrict, suspend, or deny participation.

The concerns surrounding Gates’s remarks come as international organizations and left-wing political groups increasingly push mandatory identity checks under the banner of protecting children online.

WHO Demands Global Age-Verification System

As Slay News previously reported, the World Health Organization (WHO) recently called for governments around the world to impose mandatory age-verification requirements on social media platforms.

The sweeping proposal is being promoted as a child-safety measure.

However, age verification inevitably requires identity verification.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus joined French President Emmanuel Macron in calling for mandatory age checks, government-imposed platform redesigns, and so-called “safety-by-design” regulations.

“These measures reflect a growing global consensus that digital environments require effective governance, age-appropriate design, and stronger safeguards to protect child health,” Tedros and Macron wrote.

The seemingly benign language conceals a system that could force every Internet user to pass through a digital identity checkpoint before accessing major platforms.

To confirm a user’s age, companies would need to compare that person against a government ID, facial scan, credit record, or another identity-linked database.

That means the system could not be limited to children.

Adults would also be required to verify who they are.

The open Internet would be replaced by an online environment where access depends on authorization from governments, international bodies, and technology companies.

Democrats Push Similar System for America

The same agenda is now emerging in the United States through Project 2029, a liberal policy organization positioning itself as the Democratic answer to the conservative Project 2025.

Project 2029 is urging Democrats to make online age verification a central part of their 2028 presidential platform.

Its proposal, titled “Kids Over Clicks,” calls for banning social media accounts for children under 16, weakening Section 230 protections, restricting data collection, and prohibiting targeted advertising directed at minors.

However, enforcing an age ban would require platforms to verify every user.

Adults would therefore be forced into the same digital identity system.

Project 2029 Executive Director Chad Maisel, a former adviser to former President Joe Biden and Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ), said the organization wants to shape the policy agenda of future Democrat presidential candidates.

“We’re going to see many people running for president…and we want to set the standard in terms of the type of ambition that we want to see when it comes to solving these problems,” Maisel said.

Meanwhile, Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA) has also introduced a package of Internet regulations under what he calls an “AI Accountability Agenda.”

Markey promoted the legislation under the slogan “Taking Power Back from Big Tech.”

He said the objective is to “take back unchecked power from Big Tech and put it into the hands of the American people.”

In practice, however, the proposed regulations could require Americans to surrender their names, addresses, ages, and identity documents before they can read, post, or speak online.

Child Safety Becomes Gateway to Digital Control

The expanding push for digital identity is following a familiar pattern.

Governments and global institutions begin by presenting the system as a limited safety measure.

The infrastructure is then expanded into banking, healthcare, education, voting, travel, employment, and Internet access.

Once participation becomes mandatory, refusing to surrender personal information means being locked out of modern society.

Gates’s support for digital identity systems, the WHO’s global age-verification push, and the Democrat proposals now emerging in Washington are not isolated developments.

Together, they reveal a rapidly advancing effort to make identity verification a requirement for participation in both public and private life.

A digital identity system powerful enough to govern access to money, medicine, education, elections, and online speech would become one of the most consequential surveillance tools ever created.

Without strict limits, decentralization, voluntary participation, and legal protections against political abuse, the infrastructure could form the backbone of a global technocratic control system.
