With a number of polls showing Polish conservative presidential candidate Karol Nawrocki edging out liberal Rafal Trzakowski, Prime Minister Donald Tusk is warning the election could be lost if not enough voters mobilize.

In a survey conducted by the Opinia24 studio for TVN24, 47 percent of respondents who say they will definitely take part in the second round of elections would vote for PiS-backed Nawrocki, while 45 percent said they would vote for the KO-backed candidate Trzaskowski. Another 8 percent of survey participants did not know who they would vote for.

Commenting on the poll on TVN24, Prime Minister Donald Tusk (KO) said, “Regardless of how hard the candidates try, the commitments they make, in the end it will be a real test for voters. In fact, today it will depend less on the mobilization of the candidates themselves, and much more on the mobilization of all of us,” he assessed.

“In 2023, our side wanted more. It had more reasons. The other side — PiS voters — was demobilized because it had had enough,” Tusk continued.

In reply to the host’s statement that “someone has to mobilize all of these people,” the prime minister replied, “Yes. Everyone is trying and doing what they can best. We have to regain the awareness that accompanied us in October 2023. The stakes are very high. They are always very high, but sometimes it is more visible. We feel it more strongly. I will say something very sincere and brutal: If this democratic side is not as mobilized as in October 2023, Rafał Trzaskowski will lose, if it is so mobilized, he will win,” said the PO leader.

“This 50/50 division is not just a Polish phenomenon. This division, in which there are two fundamentally different approaches to politics, to understanding patriotism, is present in many countries. I am not saying that this is a division into ‘worse’ and ‘better,’ only into different political attitudes,” he said.
