A Canadian MP has revealed his horror after a hospital attempted to railroad his father into being euthanized when the family requested that he be allowed to return home.

Conservative MP Bob Zimmer disclosed that a hospital nurse offered to kill his dying father with a lethal injection as the family tried to bring him home to spend his final days in comfort.

The lawmaker said his father, Ernie Zimmer, had not asked for euthanasia

Nevertheless, a nurse approached the family and offered Canada’s so-called Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD).

In a post on X, Zimmer said:

“He was not asking for it, nor had he asked for it.”

Zimmer said he had sought to take his father home because he was close to death and “wanted to be at home to be more comfortable.”

“I Was Disgusted”

While the family waited for clearance to bring Ernie Zimmer home from a hospital in British Columbia, a nurse approached them with the offer.

“So while we were waiting to be cleared to take him home, a nurse approached us and offered MAID to him,” Zimmer said.

“I was disgusted,” he revealed.

The family was ultimately able to bring Zimmer’s father home to Fort St. John, British Columbia, where he died.

Zimmer said the ordeal confirmed the warnings Conservatives raised prior to “assisted suicide” laws being passed.

Former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government legalized euthanasia in 2016.

“All of the things that Conservatives were saying would happen with the change in legislation and the Liberals said would never happen,” Zimmer said.

“Now Canada has the terrible record of having the most MAiD deaths in the world, at 16,499 in one year alone,” he added.

Canadians Fighting to Live

It comes as a growing number of Canadians are reporting increasing pressure to give up on long-term care in favor of being euthanized.

As Slay News recently reported, a disabled Canadian man is locked in a perpetual battle with his nation’s socialized health care system as he fights to continue living while taxpayer-funded doctors push to euthanize him under the government’s “assisted suicide” program.

Roger Foley is fighting to return home but says hospital staff are repeatedly attempting to railroad him into medically assisted death instead of treating his condition.

Foley says the battle has left him struggling to obtain the care he needs to stay alive.

He has spent years hospitalized with a debilitating neurological disease.

But his own physician says he could safely leave and receive better-matched care at substantially less cost, if Ontario approved an individualized home-care arrangement.

However, Canada’s Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) program offers cheap lethal injections that cost the government far less than long-term treatments.

As a result, Foley says he remains trapped in a system that is pushing to end his life while failing to provide the support necessary for him to live independently.

“I don’t want to die,” Foley pleaded in a new interview.

Push to Remove Consent Barriers

Meanwhile, the Canadian government is pushing new legislation that would allow the nation’s socialized healthcare system to begin euthanizing members of the public without their consent.

Campaign Life Coalition condemned Bill C-41, introduced Tuesday as the “Safeguards Act,” arguing that its provisions threaten people with dementia while the government promotes a separate prohibition on euthanasia solely for mental illness.

The legislation allows euthanasia through advance requests, prompting warnings that vulnerable patients could receive lethal injections without being told what is happening or giving consent at the time.

Under CLC’s interpretation, a practitioner could proceed on an earlier request after determining that the specified symptoms and suffering are present, without first informing the patient or speaking with them.

If a patient changes their mind or decides they’d prefer to receive care instead of a lethal injection, the doctor could decide to euthanize them anyway, against their will.

“The killing procedure may proceed solely on the basis of the earlier request, and the practitioner’s assessment that the described symptoms and suffering are present, subject only to a check for what the bill calls ‘refusal or resistance,’” CLC national president Jeff Gunnarson said.

Canada’s Euthanasia Regime Continues to Expand

Canada’s euthanasia program has rapidly expanded since its legalization.

Recent statistics showed that Canada recorded more deaths by euthanasia in 2024 than the United States recorded gun homicides.

The Liberal government paused a planned expansion in October that would have made mental illness alone eligible for euthanasia.

Yet it also moved to allow assisted suicide by “advance request,” creating a pathway for euthanasia without a patient’s direct consent at the time of death.

On the same day, the government voted against Conservative Bill C-218.

The bill would have banned the practice outright.

Conservative MP Leslyn Lewis has demanded that the Liberal government explain what safeguards will apply under its new euthanasia bill.

Campaign Life Coalition condemned the measure as a “horror.”
