President Donald Trump has revealed that the Biden administration’s Department of Justice (DOJ) was targeting Turning Point USA in an attempt to shut it down.
The conservative youth organization was founded by the late Charlie Kirk.
Kirk, 31, was assassinated last week by a gunman while speaking at a Turning Point USA event in Utah.
He launched the group in 2012 and built it into one of the nation’s most influential conservative organizations.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote:
“Why was the wonderful Turning Point under INVESTIGATION by ‘Deranged’ Jack Smith and the Corrupt & Incompetent Biden Administration.”
Former Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed Smith in November 2022 as special counsel under Joe Biden.
Smith was tasked with overseeing politically charged investigations.
Those investigations included Trump’s handling of classified documents and the Democrats’ phony “insurrection” claims related to the protests at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.
“They tried to force Charlie, and many other people and movements, out of business,” Trump added.
“They Weaponized the Justice Department against Sleepy Joe Biden’s Political Opponents, including ME!”
Vice President JD Vance backed up Trump’s claim during an interview with Fox News’s Jesse Watters on Wednesday night.
Vance said Biden’s DOJ wasted resources harassing conservatives while ignoring the real extremist threats.
“We’re talking about having law enforcement go after the people who engage in and fund literal violence, and they’re saying somehow that’s beyond the pale, even though we know Joe Biden’s FBI was investigating Charlie Kirk,” Vance said.
“Maybe they should have been investigating the networks that motivated, inspired, and maybe even funded Charlie Kirk’s murder.
“If they had, Charlie Kirk might be alive today.”
The Trump administration has repeatedly blasted Democrats for fueling violent rhetoric against conservatives.
Many argue that the Democrats’ aggressive rhetoric contributed to Kirk’s assassination.
On Wednesday evening, Trump announced he is formally designating Antifa as a terrorist organization.
The president vowed to investigate its financial backers and hold radical groups accountable for violence against conservatives.
