Embattled Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) has provided a jaw-dropping response when asked whether she married her biological brother, raising even more questions as federal investigators probe the Democrat congresswoman over allegations of immigration fraud.
Omar gave a strikingly qualified answer when MS NOW host Chris Hayes pressed her on whether she was related to her former husband, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi.
“Not to my knowledge,” Omar responded.
The response came during an interview addressing longstanding allegations that Omar married her biological brother.
Omar has previously dismissed the accusations as a “disgusting lie.”
However, investigators have recently revealed that new DNA evidence has emerged in their probe that could prove she married her brother.
Hayes asked Omar to explain who Elmi was, where the allegations originated, and whether there was any truth behind them.
When he pressed whether she was unrelated to Elmi and whether there was “not some weird kernel of truth,” Omar stopped short of an unequivocal denial.
“Not to my knowledge,” Omar replied, leaving viewers stunned.

Omar Blames Online Forum for Allegations
Omar told Hayes the allegations originated on a Somali online forum.
She said people in Minneapolis subsequently asserted that she had introduced Elmi as her brother.
Yet, members of the Somali community have spoken out to reveal that its an open secret that Omar married her brother to “get him papers.”
Omar called that account “insane” and said she did not know the individuals involved.
Her qualified response nevertheless stood out against her previous categorical rejection of the allegation.
The interview comes as federal investigators examine Omar’s immigration history following an October 12 search of her Washington, D.C., residence.
Homeland Security Investigations agents executed a judge-approved warrant and removed a cellphone, computers, notebooks, and a passport.
Investigators have reportedly obtained DNA material.
However, no public laboratory results have established that Omar and Elmi are biologically related.
No charges have been filed against her.
Marriage and Immigration Records Under Scrutiny
Omar’s account of her marital history includes a 2002 faith-based marriage to Ahmed Hirsi, the father of her children, that was not legally finalized.
She legally married Elmi, a British citizen of Somali descent, in 2009.
According to Omar, they separated through a faith-based process in 2011, later reconciled, and legally divorced in 2017.
Omar legally married Hirsi in 2018 before divorcing him in 2020.
However, Omar and Hirsi reportedly continued living together and even submitted tax filings as a couple throughout the alleged period of separation during her marriage to Elmi.
She married her current husband, Tim Mynett, shortly after divorcing Hirsi in 2020.
Elmi reportedly applied for a marriage-based green card before withdrawing the application after immigration authorities requested additional evidence.
The federal investigation also reportedly concerns possible false statements and immigration fraud involving Omar’s citizenship paperwork.
Among the questions under examination is whether Omar or her late father misrepresented her age around 2000, when she says she obtained citizenship.
DOJ Filing Identifies Omar by Former Married Name
A Justice Department filing concerning requests to unseal the search warrant materials identified the subject as “Congresswoman Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, a/k/a Ilhan Abdullahi Omar.”
The first name is associated with Omar’s 2009 marriage to Elmi. The filing lists Ilhan Abdullahi Omar as an alias.
The department requested additional time to respond to unsealing applications from news organizations and Judicial Watch, stating that the warrant had not yet been fully executed.
A federal magistrate judge previously limited aspects of the search because Omar is a sitting member of Congress.
Against that backdrop, Hayes offered Omar an opportunity to directly address the allegation she has rejected for years.
Her answer, “Not to my knowledge,” left a qualification where a categorical denial might have been expected.
