Sure, it was a 100% certainty, but even so you couldn’t help but gasp when pro-abortion Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey gleefully signed H.5595 which “will remove the 24-week limit on abortions and will rely on professional judgment from physicians,” as one outlet artfully described the legislation.
Myrna Maloney Flynn, president of Massachusetts Citizens for Life, put it more bluntly: it “legalized elective abortion up to birth on healthy moms and healthy, pain-capable infants.”
She said of the so-called “Prioritizing Patients’ Access to Care Act,” that “Passive indifference to inhumane late-term abortion is to look the other way, a choice for complacency instead of a determination to advance human rights. History shows what that indifference means for people who society classifies as less than human and not worthy of our protection under the law.”
Flynn concluded, “Unfortunately for the women of Massachusetts and their unborn babies, history repeats itself.”

With malice aforethought, H.5595 removes all of the state’s current [and nominal) restrictions on abortion after 24 weeks. Henceforth abortions up until birth may be done based upon “the professional judgment of the physician” performing it.
What does an unborn baby look like at 24 weeks, let alone at 30 or 34 or 36 weeks?

At this stage, survival outside the womb is possible. Advances in neonatal medicine, specialized hospitals and neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) have made it possible for some babies born extremely prematurely to survive and continue developing outside the womb. The chances of survival generally increase with each additional week of pregnancy.
An abortion at this stage ends the life of a developing human being who may already have the capacity to survive outside the womb with intensive medical care.
We knew for sure where Healey’s heart, so to speak, was. After all, she is a vehement and consistent and relentless proponent of expansive abortion.

Governor Maura Healey said she will sign legislation into law that vastly expands access to abortion. H.5595, the Prioritizing Patients’ Access to Care Act, passed the House on July 22, 2026, and the Senate by the deadline on July 31, 2026, and now sits on Healey’s desk awaiting her signature.
“What the bill does is make sure that women don’t have to travel out of state for needed medical care,” Healey told me while visiting New Bedford’s Feast of the Blessed Sacrament on Saturday.
I wonder, if they could, what pain-capable unborn babies might say as they are torn apart, limb from limb. It’s certainly not “needed medical care” for these little boys and girls.
