A new wave of internal Democratic Party drama is unfolding as former White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre faces withering criticism from her former colleagues.
As Slay News reported earlier, Jean-Pierre announced this week that she’s left the Democratic Party as she prepares to release a tell-all book on the “broken” administration of former President Joe Biden.
In response, other Biden White House insiders are now speaking out to bash Jean-Pierre, who they argue was viewed as “untouchable” while serving as press secretary.
During a book tour stop in Chicago for “Original Sin,” authors Alex Thompson and Jake Tapper revealed that staffers in the Biden administration were deeply frustrated with Jean-Pierre’s performance behind the scenes.
Biden officials are now even angrier that she’s attempting to reinvent herself as an outsider.
Jean-Pierre, who just announced she is leaving the Democratic Party and becoming an independent, is promoting a memoir claiming she worked in a “broken White House.”
But according to Thompson, former Biden insiders aren’t buying the narrative.
“Someone just texted me,” he told the audience,
“It is quite the ballet move to say that you’re leaving the Democratic Party because they were disloyal to Joe Biden.
“But that is what she’s saying.”
In other words, Jean-Pierre is attempting to position herself as the victim, despite having held one of the highest-profile jobs in the administration — and reportedly bungled it.
According to the “Original Sin” authors, Jean-Pierre was widely viewed within the White House as unqualified and uninterested in improving.
“There was mass frustration,” Thompson said.
“She was not good at it, was not aware she was not good at it, and she did not try hard to get better.”
Why was she kept in the job?
Thompson says it came down to her closeness with First Lady Jill Biden’s top aide, Anthony Bernal.
As Slay News has reported, Bernal was a key power player behind the scenes.
It’s believed that Bernal was one of the lead puppeteers secretly pulling Biden’s strings and may have been responsible for using the autopen to sign executive orders on behalf of the cognitively impaired former president.
But what’s really fueling the outrage now is Jean-Pierre’s attempt to capitalize on her time in the Biden administration while throwing the party under the bus to sell books.
“They say that simmering resentment just exploded instantly,” Thompson noted.
CNN’s Jake Tapper, who co-authored the book, agreed that her sudden political conversion was puzzling.
“There would have been less scorn if she hadn’t made the leap to independent,” he said, suggesting her motives appear self-serving.
When asked why none of these angry ex-staffers are willing to go on record, Tapper bluntly asked, “What are you afraid of?”
Thompson had an answer: many former staffers have new jobs and don’t want to be linked to public mudslinging.
More tellingly, he said, the Biden White House had a reputation for retaliating against dissenters.
“The Biden culture was to punish and try to destroy people who spoke out,” he claimed.
Tapper added that Jean-Pierre’s identity as the first black and LGBTQ press secretary also made colleagues reluctant to speak publicly, for fear of being labeled intolerant or worse — a dynamic that has shielded her from accountability.
The authors also questioned Jean-Pierre’s honesty and professionalism during her tenure, especially as Biden’s cognitive fitness came under fire.
Tapper recalled a moment in 2023 when Biden repeated the same scripted talking points at a fundraiser within minutes.
Jean-Pierre defended the gaffe by claiming, “That’s how strongly he feels.”
Tapper remarked, “In her defense, she rarely saw him.”
While Jean-Pierre attempts to pivot away from a failed administration, insiders say she is rewriting history to protect herself — and that her book tour is only inflaming old wounds.
