A New Jersey nurse sued Englewood Health, a bariatric surgeon, and other hospital officials Friday after she said she was suspended without pay for calling out the doctor for allegedly celebrating Charlie Kirk’s assassination.
Lexi Kuenzle, 33, is seeking damages for what she calls wrongful suspension. The lawsuit was filed in Bergen County Superior Court against the New Jersey hospital, surgeon Dr. Matthew Jung and other officials.
Jung allegedly told a room full of medical staff Wednesday that Kirk “deserved it” and “had it coming” after news broke of Charlie Kirk being shot at Utah Valley University, according to the lawsuit, the New York Post reported. The doctor allegedly made these statements while eight nurses and a patient listened from a nearby stretcher.
Kuenzle, who expressed sadness over Kirk’s death, immediately challenged Jung. “You’re a doctor. How could you say someone deserved to die?” she asked. Her question went to the heart of what her lawsuit now argues—that Jung violated both the Hippocratic Oath and American Medical Association ethics by celebrating violence, according to the outlet.

The Hoboken resident said she took her concerns to hospital management that day. She also shared the incident on Instagram, where she often posts conservative content. By Thursday, administrators summoned her to a meeting where they suspended her without pay. Union representatives advised her to seek employment elsewhere, the outlet reported.
Meanwhile, Jung faced no apparent discipline. The surgeon even offered to buy lunch for staff who heard his remarks — though Kuenzle wouldn’t benefit since she’d already been suspended, according to the outlet.
Her case comes as conservatives nationwide document professionals celebrating Kirk’s death. Matthew Hurtt has catalogued firings at multiple universities, while the Carolina Panthers terminated communications coordinator Charlie Rock for posting “Why are yall sad? Your man said it was worth it.”
GOP activist Scott Presler dubbed Kuenzle as one of “Charlie’s Angels,” raising questions about whether medical professionals who celebrate patient deaths can provide unbiased care.
