A former Missouri television news anchor has pleaded guilty to murdering her 80-year-old mother after authorities said she believed the elderly woman was the devil.

Angelynn “Angie” Mock, 48, admitted to one count of first-degree murder in connection with the October 31, 2025, killing of her mother, Anita Avers, the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Under the plea agreement, Mock faces life in prison with the possibility of parole after 25 years.

She is scheduled to be sentenced on October 5.

Police Found Mock Outside with Cuts on Her Hands

Wichita police were called to the home Mock shared with Avers and Mock’s stepfather at around 7:50 a.m. on Halloween morning last year.

When officers arrived, Mock was outside the house with cuts on her hands, according to police.

Avers was found suffering from multiple stab wounds and was rushed to a hospital, where she later died.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Mock made several statements indicating that she believed her mother was the devil.

She allegedly told authorities that she killed Avers to “save herself.”

Stepfather Says Mock Suffered from Delusions

Mock’s stepfather told KAKE-TV that she had previously been diagnosed with mental illness and had struggled with delusions and depression.

Those issues were not enough to prevent her from entering a guilty plea to first-degree murder.

The plea now leaves Mock facing the possibility of spending decades behind bars before she is even eligible for parole.

Mock Had Long Career in Local Television

Before the killing, Mock had worked in television news for years.

According to her LinkedIn profile, she worked as a news anchor and reporter for Fox 2 in St. Louis from 2011 to 2015.

Before that, she served as a morning anchor at KOKH-TV in Oklahoma City from 2007 to 2011.

Mock also held reporting jobs in Minnesota, Montana, and Nebraska.

Her broadcasting career is now overshadowed by the brutal killing of her own mother.

On Halloween morning last year, police say Mock stabbed the 80-year-old repeatedly after becoming convinced she was the devil.

Now she has admitted to murder and faces a life sentence.
