Former Vatican Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò has accused the Holy See of using its moral authority to legitimize Dr. Anthony Fauci and the global COVID agenda during the height of the pandemic.
In a blistering op-ed posted on social media, Viganò singled out the Vatican’s decision to give Fauci a prominent platform at a major 2021 health conference alongside figures including Chelsea Clinton, Deepak Chopra, and senior executives from Pfizer and Moderna.
Viganò argued that the event was not an innocent medical conference but a public display of complicity with Fauci and others who helped drive lockdowns, mass vaccination, and sweeping restrictions on fundamental freedoms.
Vatican Chose Fauci to Open Major Conference
Viganò pointed to the Holy See’s May 6, 2021 conference, titled “Exploring the Mind, Body & Soul. Unite to Prevent & Unite to Cure.”
The event was held under the Vatican’s Pontifical Council for Culture while much of the world remained under severe COVID restrictions.
Fauci was chosen to open the proceedings.
“Opening the proceedings was not a theologian, not a pastor, not a defender of natural law. It was Anthony Fauci,” Viganò wrote.
“Beside him, Deepak Chopra, Chelsea Clinton… and, in the program, the top executives of Pfizer and Moderna.”
Viganò said the Vatican should have been challenging the COVID narrative rather than elevating one of its most powerful public architects.
“The same Holy See that should have raised its voice against the lie, against mass experimentation, against the suspension of fundamental rights, actively collaborated with the architects of what has been—and remains—one of the greatest operations of social control and health fraud in contemporary history: a true crime against humanity,” he wrote.
‘They Cannot Say They Did Not Know’
Viganò said Church leaders cannot claim they were unaware of the dangers surrounding the pandemic response.
He said he began publicly warning about the COVID operation in May 2020 and twice contacted the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith to challenge the Vatican’s support for the official narrative.
“They cannot say they did not know,” Viganò wrote.
“They cannot say they were not warned.
“I myself denounced the pandemic fraud as early as May 2020 and wrote twice to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, to warn against the uncritical adherence to a pseudo-scientific narrative that contradicted not only prudence, but the non-negotiable principles of Catholic morality.”
Viganò said those warnings were ignored.
“I was ignored and ostracized,” he wrote.
“As were so many others.”
Viganò Says Vatican Lent Fauci Its Moral Authority
According to Viganò, the Vatican conference gave Fauci and the wider COVID establishment a powerful appearance of moral legitimacy.
“The May 2021 event was not a ‘simple conference,’” he wrote.
“It was a public demonstration of complicity.
“The Holy See did not limit itself to silence: it offered its moral authority and its image to those who, in the name of ‘health,’ imposed limitations on fundamental freedoms, discrimination, blackmail, and above all experimental serums that have caused the deaths of millions of people: a true and ongoing hecatomb from the damage caused by those serums.”
Fauci became the public face of the U.S. pandemic response and aggressively promoted masking, social distancing, lockdown-related restrictions, and mass COVID vaccination.
Viganò’s comments place fresh scrutiny on the Vatican’s decision to showcase Fauci at a time when dissenting doctors, scientists, clergy, and citizens were being marginalized for challenging those same policies.
‘May This Not Be Forgotten’
Viganò also condemned the late Pope Francis, whom he referred to by his real name, Jorge Mario Bergoglio, and accused senior Church officials of continuing to defend the same pandemic narrative.
He warned that responsibility does not end with those who designed the policies but extends to institutions that knowingly gave them legitimacy.
“Whoever remains silent in the face of crime, or worse legitimizes it with their consent, becomes a co-responsible party,” Viganò wrote.
“May this not be forgotten.
“May it remain written.”
