Pope Leo XIV has appointed a former Rothschild banking executive to oversee the Vatican’s finances, a move that is already triggering intense scrutiny and concern over the direction of the Catholic Church’s financial leadership.

The appointment comes just days after French authorities reportedly raided offices tied to the Rothschild banking network.

The raid was part of an investigation linked to child sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein.

The link is fueling fresh questions about the timing and judgment behind the decision.

Vatican Hands Financial Control to Rothschild-Linked Figure

The Vatican confirmed that François Pauly will take over as president of the supervisory board for the Institute for the Works of Religion.

The financial entity is commonly referred to as the Vatican Bank.

The role places Pauly in charge of overseeing the Church’s financial operations, including assets, investments, and charitable funds.

Pauly previously served as general manager of the Edmond de Rothschild group, a private banking arm tied to one of the most powerful financial dynasties in the world.

According to reports, the Paris headquarters of Edmond de Rothschild was raided on March 20.

The raid was part of an investigation into former employees’ alleged links to Jeffrey Epstein.

The ties were recently exposed in the U.S. Department of Justice’s (DOJ) release of the Epstein Files.

While Pauly himself has not been accused of wrongdoing, the association is drawing renewed attention.

Timing Raises Serious Questions

The appointment is raising eyebrows not only because of Pauly’s background, but also because of what else is happening inside the Church.

Just days earlier, senior Catholic exorcists reportedly met with Pope Leo XIV to warn about a surge in occult and satanic practices.

They are urging stronger spiritual leadership and preparedness within the Church.

Against that backdrop, critics are questioning why the Vatican would simultaneously move to install a high-level figure tied to global banking elites at the helm of its financial system.

Epstein Links Add to Scrutiny

Recently released documents have shown that Jeffrey Epstein had contact with individuals and institutions connected to elite financial networks, including those tied to the Rothschild banking sphere.

There is no evidence that Pauly himself was involved in those communications.

Yet, the broader connections are fueling concern about overlapping circles of influence among global finance, politics, and powerful institutions.

Epstein himself had previously boasted of relationships with high-level financial figures, and past reporting has documented links between his network and prominent elites.

Growing Concern Over Influence and Control

The Vatican’s decision is now being viewed by critics as part of a broader pattern, where powerful financial interests appear increasingly intertwined with major global institutions.

Even without subscribing to more extreme theories, the reality remains that the Rothschild name carries significant weight in international banking and influence.

Placing a former senior executive from that network in charge of the Vatican’s finances is, at minimum, a decision that invites scrutiny.

A Defining Moment for the Vatican

The Institute for the Works of Religion has long been at the center of financial reform efforts within the Church, following years of controversy and calls for transparency.

Now, with Pauly set to assume control on April 28, the Vatican faces a pivotal moment.

Supporters may frame the move as bringing in experienced financial leadership.

However, many see it as a troubling signal that raises deeper questions about who ultimately holds influence over one of the world’s most powerful religious institutions.
